Sunday October 4th, 2009 9:00 am Dr. Brian Christie and Ross Petersen have created a CIBC Run for the Cure team (" Scientists & Friends 4 Women's Health" ) to support breast cancer research, education, and awareness! Thousands of participants venture to the University of Victoria for a 5km walk/jog/run around ring road. This feel-good event is a great opportunity to get out of bed early, get some exercise and a pretty pink t-shirt, and show your support for the ~1:9 ladies (and the odd gentleman) diagnosed with this devastating disease. They would love to have you on board! CENTRE FOR HIGH-THROUGHPUT BIOLOGY SYMPOSIUM Friday, September 18, 2009 Michael Smith Laboratories lecture theatre, UBC, Vancouver, BC International, national and local speakers will discuss current research, new findings, advances in experimental technologies and more, all within the framework of high-throughput biology. In addition, there will be a poster session during the extended lunch break in order to highlight work currently being conducted and to provide an opportunity for the sharing of ideas and potential collaborations. UVIC ANNOUNCEMENTS PRIA-UVIC PARTNERSHIP AND PROJECT WORK IN INDIA Tuesday, September 15, 2009 4:00-5:00pm David Strong Building C114, UVic PRIA is the Participatory Research in Action organization, well known throughout India and around the world for its progressive work on community development, participatory governance and wide ranging work in less developed communities. People from UVic have been working actively with PRIA since 2004, and a Memorandum of Agreement was signed by President Turpin in Delhi in 2007. Recent work has included two Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute funded projects on women and governance (with Education), and community mapping (with Geography). A Master's in International Development (involving Public Administration and a range of disciplines) is currently in the planning stages.
